I just want to give you another point of view. I'm not saying this is my view but just another view.
A person should not be required to recycle. The person works, pays their taxes, and should be able to decide if they want to recycle. To make a comment that only people that recycle should be given a special exemption is silly. Our resources in town are stretched to say the least. Please tell me who would be the recycle police? Would that come under highway departments responsiblity? It is easy to make a comment on how something should be but what is the plan to enforce it?
Recycling is a good way to curb some costs for town taxpayers. I think if would be easier to sway more people to recycle than to make a special exception for them.

I have lived in Townsend for 10 years and seen my taxes go up up and up. although i love curbside i feel i pay enough already in taxes! i know folks around me (you can tell by the amount of bags/ no recycle bins left out) that DO NOT recycle,, the town should go after them belive me it would not be difficult for allied waste (a.k.a. BFI) to take the time and note the address.
thank you

Given that trash/recycled items removal is the only benefit I receive from the town, I am vehemently opposed. Just take a look on trash removal days and see how many people do not recycle at all. It isn't that hard.
I also do not buy the complaining of seniors that it is too difficult for them. It is all a matter of getting into the habit!
Though I don't like it a bit, if Townsend must, then sell tags to put on each bag of trash, or sell trashbags. The recyclers clearly will pay less than those who don't.
This appears to be somewhat fair, as those who produce the most trash without recycling will pay the most.

I completely agree... This issue should be considered by the Town Gov. Does anybody know why it hasn't been brought up before?...or if it has?
